It all starts with an amalgam that seems to shine with its own inner light, the process continues with an idea that may be well, or less well defined It all starts with an amalgam that seems to shine with its own inner light, the process continues with an idea that may be well, or less well defined. Just a few tools: a pair of pliers, pincers and an old knife. Purposefully they go to work on the semi-molten mass, gently they elongate it, twist it, curve it, draw it together and flatten it, smoothing it quickly to avoid overheating, all of this in pursuit of the idea. They may not stop, they must finish what they have started; there can be no gap between the beginning and the end, the material forbids it.
The idea takes shape, becomes reality. It cools slowly, just as the frenzy of its creator gradually cools down, making it possible to see both inside and beyond it.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the art of Murano glass, an art that Venice is determined to protect, safe in its unique island home.
